De Zerbi Kintsugi

All the way from despair to faith. From adversity to realised dreams.

Nothing lasts forever, anything can fall apart, anything can break in the blink of an eye. We know it, we felt it when all of a sudden Chelsea’s greedy claws grabbed P****r. Our goals after an excellent start to the season, our vision, our dreams all shattered into countless pieces.

Broken hearts filled with anger, left in the cold, without anyone knowing when or how they could heal. Except Tony and him.

In Japan they call it “Kintsugi”. It’s the art of repairing broken pottery by mending the broken pieces with gold. It’s all about taking something broken and turning it into something more beautiful, it’s all about turning the despair to faith, the adversity to dreams.

And this is why it’s all about Roberto De Zerbi and us. When everything felt indescribably disappointing and wrong, we were lucky enough to find our Midas.

His touch of gold was about the passion, the mentality, the determination, the fucking amazing football. And it was exactly what we needed; it was what put the pieces back together.

He took our broken hearts and mended them with gold to make them more resilient, more beautiful than ever before, like Kintsugi. He turned the pain into excitement, the tears of anger and sadness into tears of joy and disbelief by making us experience what felt almost impossible and dream bigger and braver than ever.

Everything felt more special because of this, because of what he found and what he created out of it. Because of the way he shared our pain, our desire, our dreams. He became the embodiment of our passion, a master of the most exciting football we’ve seen, but most of all a Kintsugi master for the extraordinary way he healed us and led us to historic heights and unforgettable memories.

But now it’s over for reasons only he and the club will ever truly know. It was short but powerful, intense and beautiful, full of emotions and realised dreams. And this is why it’ll never be forgotten: people remember best not with their mind, but their heart. Those thousand – once broken – hearts that Roberto healed with his gold to create the most beautiful moments anyone has lived in the 122 years of this club.

Thank you doesn’t feel enough for what you’ve given us De Zerbi. But it’s all we can say for this amazing journey. All the way from despair to faith.

From adversity to realised dreams, thanks to our very own Kintsugi master.
